Light Packing: A {Mix & Match} Extravaganza!

With the holidays being thisclose, how many of you are going to be traveling?  If you're like me you spend each holiday traveling (both The Fiance's and my families live up near Toledo, OH so we're driving up there constantly).  The worst part about it all?  Packing.  I can't stand packing.  Especially because I'm one of those that likes to dress based on my mood for the day.  After a few years of traveling so often I've learned how to be a bit more streamlined in my choices.  I thought I'd share some options with you.

Shoes take up a lot of room, particularly boots.  So if you have one very versatile pair of boots, you can wear them with all kinds of different looks, like below.  (Each item shown below is $50 or less.)

Packing: Boots

Packing: Boots by peanutsms featuring chunky jewelry

Outfit 1: Casual.  Pair them with skinny jeans in a cool color, an oversize sweater and cozy accessories and you're ready to stuff your face!
Outfit 2: Dressy.  Going out?  Wear your boots with a dressy tunic button down, body conscious skirt and fun tights.
Outfit 3: Party.  If you have a Christmas party to go to, pair your boots with wide leg jeans (make sure your jeans are wide enough that you don't see the boot through the leg of your jeans), a fun sparkle shirt and cardigan.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bulky sweaters can also take up a lot of room.  Find one in a neutral color with a belt detail (that is able to be removed if you want it to be) and layer it with any outfit.

Packing: Sweater

Outfit 1: Dressy.  If you're going out, layer a simple button down over leather pants.  Wear great heels and a scarf in a complimentary color palette.  Layer the sweater over the top to add interest to the look.
Outfit 2: Party.  Another Christmas party look.  Wear the sweater over a tunic dress to keep yourself warm.  Add great riding boots and elegant accessories.
**Bonus** The accessories for outfits 1 and 2 are interchangeable, another space saver!
Outfit 3: Opening Gifts.  You can still look cute while opening your gifts from Santa!  Pair the sweater with neutral sweatpants and a great printed cami.  Add in slipper boots and a cozy scarf and enjoy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm personally one that likes wearing my jeans more than once in between washing.  And while I'm out of town I don't want to lug around a bunch of pairs of jeans-- that gets heavy!  So take one pair that is in a dark wash with a boot cut leg.

Packing: Jeans

Outfit 1: Casual.  Keep your look simple when you're lounging around.  Wear a flowy t-shirt, a great cardigan in a bold color and a pretty scarf.  Add flats and you have ultimate comfort.
Outfit 2: Errands.  Have to run some last minute errands before the family dinner?  Wear a loose fitting blouse in an interesting pattern and bootie wedges with your jeans.
Outfit 3: Dressy.  If you're going somewhere a bit dressier, add a pretty lace tank with a bow detail and a great red blazer.  Stacked heels will elongate your legs.

I am loving the leather pants w/ crisp white shirt. I really wish I could rock that but in FL, never. As I type this post, it is about to hit 80! I also love the relaxed jean options...that seems to be my staple when I travel!

I am loving all these outfits Sarah! Similarly to you, I also prefer to bring dark rinse jeans when I am travelling because I don't have to worry about it getting dirty and also I agree that travelling with more than 2 pairs of jeans is heavy!

Great idea for a post- I hate packing too! I'm just awful at condensing what I want to take and can't help wanting to be prepared for anything! In that case I always look like I'm ready for a week's vacation even if I'm just going somewhere for a weekend. Improving my packing skills should definitely be on my list of things to accomplish in 2012!

So I blame this post for the new patent red heels I bought at F21 this week...I am wearing them tonight for Christmas Eve dinner and gift exchange with the hubby's family. With of course an out fit inspired by #3 with a blazer and all.

My husband was a good sport (albeit surprised) when I told him I bought new shoes expressly due to a blog. Lol.

Merry Christmas, Sarah!
